Christmas Tree Lights
2009 Christmas Tree Light Listing In Honor In Memory
The Christmas Tree Light program was initiated by Alice Cornwall in 1983 as a fundraiser for the Hospital Auxiliary. Each December, at the tree lighting, as members of the community gathered to remember loved ones with lights, Mrs. Cornwall would share the familiar story of "The Poor Little Tree." Although Mrs. Cornwall passed away in 2004, Stephens Volunteer Services carries on the cherished holiday tradition.
Every year, on the first Wednesday of December at 5 p.m., the evergreen tree in front of Stephens Memorial Hospital is lit with sparkling lights in memory or in honor of loved ones in the community. A beautiful ceremony precedes the lighting of the tree. The Christmas tree event is sponsored by the Stephens Volunteer Services. Lights are sold for five dollars each and can be purchased in memory or honor of a loved one or friend.
